Point Lobos

Had a great day today in Point Lobos Reserve, in Monterey California. The weather was foggy and mild but the scenery was awesome. There were scuba divers in some areas and plenty of hikers all through out the park. If you are ever out in Monterey I highly suggest taking some time to come here. Here are a few of the my more memorable pictures:

Father's Birthday

I took a couple of photos of my family this past Sunday. One of my father and one of my daughter turned out really nice.

My Daughter

I think this photo was pure luck, just happen to catch her in the right moment.

And here is my dad. I love this picture:

Amazing Day

I had such a memorable day yesterday. I went to San Francisco with two of my closest friends and my wife. We started out the day with lunch at a gem of SF. The Swan Oyster Depot is one of those places that is so small you could miss it... if there wasn't a line going out the entrance. The food was delicious. I now have a place in the city that I can go specifically for seafood. The Louie salad was excellent. The Clam Chowder was an unexpected surprise. The Crab Cocktail was sweet perfection and finally, the Oysters were off the hook!

After lunch we headed over to the Palace of Fine Arts. The sky was amazing but I was only able to get a few viable pictures due to my own ignorance. As you can see, the top of the dome is very light in color, so when the sun is too bright, the camera has a hard time distinguishing between the dome and the sky.

Palice of Fine Arts

After the POFA, We headed over to the Fisherman's Wharf. On the way I grabbed a couple of pictures of some really peaceful scenes.

A Bike Ride

My friend told me that of all the places he has been in the world, he only enjoys France more than San Francisco. I haven't been to that many places, but I love this city.

As we got closer to the wharf I noticed how beautiful the sky was and decided to take a few more shots.

Driving Along the Docks

I love how the gray mixes with the vibrant blues.

Once at the wharf I wanted to make sure that I got at least one good picture of the boats. I think I ended up with a decent one.

Fisherman's Warf

We pretty much spent the remainder of the day on Pier 39. We found a small outdoor cafe where we drank 2 bottles of wine. We then headed for Cioppino's and ordered their namesake dish. While waiting for our food we ordered a few more bottles of wine and snuck away to the bar to get a shot of Petrone and Grey Goose. When we came back our bowls of Cioppino were steaming hot and ready to be enjoyed. I can't explain to you how good the dish was, just believe me when I tell you that I don't think the day could have been any more perfect than it was.

If you want to see more of my pictures of SF, just head on over to my Flikr stream!

Heading to SF

With one of my best buds in town we are making a trip into San Francisco. I am bringing along another close friend that loves to protograph as well. Hopefully we can get some nice pictures out there. It would be pretty hard not to.

Getting started

Over the past few months I have been toying with the idea of getting a DSLR camera. My interests were initially peaked when I got my Canon HG21 back in November/December of 2009. The camcorder had limited DSLR capabilities that proved only to wet my appetite for the world of digital photography.

I spent a good amount of time looking through various web sites and and forums trying to find the right camera for my needs. Everyone was telling me to start small, get something like a Rebel T2i or even less. At first I agreed but then I thought to myself, I want to set big goals and I would rather aim high and fail that aim low and succeed. I decided to pick up the Canon 7D. Regarded as one of the best pro-sumer cameras available, it set me back quite a bit. But I am happy with what I got.

This web site will be dedicated to my journey. I want to share with people how I learn about photography and hopefully you will also learn something or maybe just enjoy the show.

Just to let everyone know, here is how I am currently geared:

Canon 7D
EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
8GB CF Card
72mm UV Filter

I am planning on purchasing the following items in the near future:
Tripod
EF 50mm f/1.8 II
72mm Polarizer Filter
Backpack or bag for my gear
Lens hood
Lens cases
Remote
